Thirteen people die of influenza in Moldova

Chisinau, 5 February /MOLDPRES/ - Thirteen people have died of influenza since the beginning of the cold season and 889 persons fell sick with this disease.
A head of department at the National Public Health Agency, Stefan Gheorghita, said that the epidemiological situation for flu was at a level of medium intensity in Moldova. Four cases of death were recorded in the last week, confirmed with the influenza virus A (H1N1) in two persons from the Moldovan capital, one from the western Ungheni district and one from the northern Soldanesti district. All these persons were not vaccinated against seasonal flu.
As many as 348 cases of seasonal flu were registered in the week 28 January – 3 February, of which 65 ones confirmed in laboratory. The people diagnosed with influenza received treatment according to clinical protocols.
The Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry informed that it was continuously supervising and monitoring the epidemiological situation for flu and acute respiratory infections and recommends that the citizens undertake all measures of prophylaxis and observing the hygiene rules, immediately appeal to doctor in case of the first symptoms of the disease, without resorting to self-treatment.
The influenza has hit the neighbor countries, Ukraine and Romania, too. Thus, 79 people died of flu in Romania.
