Moldova's Agency for Energy Efficiency to be reorganized

Chisinau, 7 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Agency for Energy Efficiency (AEE) – an administrative authority subordinated to the Economics and Infrastructure Ministry, will be reorganized through merger (absorption) with the Fund for Energy Efficiency. The provision is included in a government decision, due to be published in the 8 February issue of Moldova’s Official Journal (Monitorul Oficial).
Under the document, the Agency for Energy Efficiency in a one-month period will approve the personnel and will present it to the State Chancellery for approval. The powers, rights and obligations of the Fund for Energy Efficiency will fully switch to the Agency for Energy Efficiency. The reorganization fits into the reform of the specialty central public administration, started in 2018.
The reorganization was preceded including by functional analyses, carried out for both authorities, to an order by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency and the European Union Delegation in Chisinau on the period 2015-2017.
The agency has the task to implement the state policy in the energy efficiency sector, including through attracting and managing financial resources, in order to finance and promote projects in the energy efficiency field and energy from renewable sources. Also, AEE will promote the energy performance of buildings, as well as the turning to good account of sources of renewable energy, including by attracting and managing financial resources, in order to finance projects in the concerned sectors in a sustainable way from the viewpoint of the environment and climate changes.
Following the adoption of the law on energy efficiency in new version, the Agency for Energy Efficiency is to fulfill a significantly larger number of powers. Moreover, in March 2018, amendments were made to the law on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources, respectively the Agency for Energy Efficiency is in charge of implementing the state’s policy in this field.
The decision on the Agency’s reorganization enters into force on the date of its adoption in the Official Journal.
