Moldovan police register 129 infringements of legislation since beginning of electoral campaign

Chisinau, 21 February /MOLDPRES/ - The Interior Ministry (MAI) today unveiled statistics of the electoral infringements. MAI informed that, since the beginning of the electoral campaign, law-enforcers had registered 129 cases in which diverse infringements were declared and other actions which can encroach upon the electoral process.
According to MAI, eight cases out of the 129 infringements regarded attempts of corrupting voters. One case was initiated against the Democratic Party (PDM) following a notification by the ACUM electoral bloc, five cases regarded the Shor Political Party, six cases were notified by the police; another case deals with the notification of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) about the involvement of the charity foundation Din Suflet (With All My Heart) in the electoral campaign. All materials were submitted to the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office for consideration.
At the same time, three contestations were submitted to CEC on 20 February concerning the corrupting of voters by members and supporters of the Shor Political Party, with the actions due to be verified. On this period, 102 contravention procedures have been initiated on the suspicion of placing electoral agitation posters in another place than the established one, of which: 56 cases – Shor Political Party, 28 cases – Party of Socialists (PSRM), seven cases – ACUM electoral bloc, three cases – PDM, three cases of independent candidates, two cases of Our Party and two cases of the Party of Communists (PCRM).
In the last month, law-enforcers have drawn up four official reports for deliberate deterioration of electoral posters. Also, policemen considered five incidents, recorded with electoral candidates and their representatives; decisions were adopted on four cases and measures are undertaken to establish the circumstances on one case.
MAI’s data shows that, during 25 January – 19 February 2019, more than 4,602 policemen ensured public order at 2,934 electoral meetings held in Moldova, in which about 214,728 people participated.
