Moldovan cabinet to get involved in solving problem of waste management nationally

Chisinau, 7 March /MOLDPRES/ - The local public authorities will have obligations of only collection, gradual ensuring of conditions for the separate collection and carriage of waste, while the cabinet will have extended powers in the waste management sector nationally. The cabinet of ministers today approved the concerned draft law by taking responsibility, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„In discussions I had with mayors just in the electoral campaign, I understood that only the mayors cannot be made responsible for this problem. Therefore, we change the law on waste, so that not only mayors assume this obligation, but also the central public administration. Subsequently, we are to carry through the draft and settle this big problem for Moldova,” Pavel Filip said.
The amendments approved delimit the powers in the waste management field between the government, subordinated institutions and the local public administration authorities.
The enforcement of the new legal provisions will be made within the limit of the financial means earmarked in the state budget for this sector.
