Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ – The Moldsilva forestry Agency (AM) has announced today that it will intensify the national forest protection measures on high temperatures associated with strong winds, which might cause forest bonfires.

"With coming of spring, we must take into account seasonal weather phenomena, caused by high temperatures and strong winds. Similarly, the starting of agricultural works on the land near the forest fund, as well as the fact that more and more people choose to rest in the forests, create extremely dangerous conditions for the outbreak of forest bonfires," states sources from Moldsilva.

Related to it, the agency has established and will implement a series of measures to prevent bonfires in forests. These ones include: intensive patrolling of the forest fund, especially in areas and periods at high risk, ensuring the operative measures for fire extinguishing and endowment, completing the forest subdivisions with necessary fire means. Moldsilva entities will also be prepared for exceptional situations, so that employees react duly at first emergencies.

Also, Moldsilva warns the people who use the forest or adjoining lands to be responsible, ensure that they leave clean and faded exits behind them. In situations of risk, citizens are asked to call 112.

There are over 400 thousand hectares of forest In Moldova. Much of them are managed by the AM, and the rest are managed by local authorities and about 3 per cent are in private management.
