Yellow Code of pollution announced in Chisinau, Balti municipalities

Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Centre (SHS) today announced a Yellow Code of increased pollution in the Balti and Chisinau municipalities.

SHS data shows that the gusting of the wind up to 18-23 metres/second has caused a growth of the concentrations of solid particles (total dust) in the air. “Dust and antiskid material, swept off by the wind, will significantly pollute the atmospheric air, especially in the Balti and Chisinau municipalities, and can hit the respiratory system and the cardiovascular one in people,” according to SHS sources.

In the context, the Environment Agency recommend that the municipal services and local public authorities undertake needed measures to improve the situation, making a wet cleaning of streets and adjacent areas. These are necessary to diminish the impact of the noxious precipitation on the environment and people’s health.

For their part, physicians recommend a maximum possible reduction of the duration of stay in industrial zones, with walks in green areas or, in general, staying indoors being preferable, till the weather calms. People with diseases of the cardiovascular system and the respiratory ways, allergic diseases are asked to reduce physical burden and exactly observe the usual medical prescriptions.
