Chisinau, 11 March /MOLDPRES/ - A number of 140 stray dogs were sterilized in Chisinau on 7-10 March this year. The interventions were made by five Romanian veterinary physicians, on a mission in the Moldovan capital last week.
The action took place at the municipal centre for the sterilization of dogs. The animals subjected to interventions were subsequently set free. Besides the sterilization, the Romanian experts carried out training sessions for veterinary physicians from Moldova. Also, 15 volunteers and representatives of the competent organizations participated in the activities.
A similar activity of sterilizing stray animals from Chisinau is planned for next May, with the participation of 11 specialists of the World Veterinary Association. After the weekly meeting of the city hall’s services, the acting general mayor of Chisinau, Ruslan Codreanu, said that about 800 stray dogs might be sterilized during the mission from May 2019.
„We will make efforts to improve our sterilization capacities, so that we no longer have aggressive dogs on streets. At the same time, the aggressive dogs will be raised and subjected to euthanasia by human ways,” Codreanu said.
The acting mayor appreciated the fact that the municipal authorities after ten years had resumed the measures of control over the stray dogs from the Moldovan capital.
