Influenza makes new victim in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ - A 53-year-old man from the southern Leova district died of flu last week. Thus, the number of deaths caused by influenza has reached 30 in Moldova.
According to the Health, Labour and Social Protection Ministry, on the period 1 October 2018-4 March 2019, 2,023 cases of flu and 226, 223 cases of acute respiratory infections were registered in Moldova. At the same time, on this period, 30 cases of death were recorded, confirmed with the presence of the A (H1N1) influenza virus. All persons who died had not been vaccinated against seasonal flu.
In the last week, specialists registered 78 cases of seasonal flu, 38 confirmed in laboratory, 8,791 cases of acute infections of upper respiratory ways and 439 cases of severe acute respiratory infections. Samples collected from persons ill with flu showed the presence of the virus A(H1N1) and A(H3N2).
To avoid the falling sick, epidemiologists recommend that citizens do not resort to self-treatment and appeal to doctor at the appearance of the first symptoms compatible with influenza. Also, it is necessary that ill persons avoid contact with pregnant women, immune-compromised people, persons sick with cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory apparatus, diabetes and obesity.
