State to finance more cataract operations in Moldova

Chisinau, 12 March /MOLDPRES/ – The National Healthcare Insurance Company (CNAM) financed over 4,000 cataract operations in 2018, and the number will increase by another 1,500 in 2019.
According to the CNAM's data, in 2018, it was allocated the amount of about MDL 40 million 330 thousand for cataract surgery from compulsory healthcare insurance funds, with about four million more compared to 2017.
The average cost of a treated case is almost MDL 10,000, which also includes expenses for consumables.
Also, the number of sanitary institutions contracted to perform cataract surgery has nearly tripled. Thus, in 2018, the CNAM concluded contracts for provision of these services with 14 institutions, nine more than in 2017.
In 2019, the CNAM will finance over 5,500 cataract operations, of a total cost exceeding MDL 55 million. All insured persons on the waiting list benefit from these interventions.
