Academy of Sciences of Moldova elects president of institution

Chisinau, 09 April /MOLDPRES/ – Academician Ion Tighineanu has been elected today as president of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova (ASM) at the general assembly (AG) of the institution.
Only one candidature, designated by the three sections of ASM, was included in the ballot. For candidature of Academician Ion Tighineanu, there voted 95 employees, 3 votes were against, and one ballot was considered not valid.
Interviewed by agency, president of ASM, Ion Tighineanu, has said that his election to this position is a great responsibility. "Starting tomorrow, we start the plan of activity. We have to elect the Academy leadership, organise the choices of the Academy members, and, of course, we have to work with society. We must win the trust of society and regain our status as the country's highest scientific forum. If we are united, if there is a consolidation of the community, we will have chances of success," specified the head of ASM.
Academician Ion Tighineanu was born on 22 March 1955 in village Sofia, Drochia district. He is a specialist in nanoelectronics and nanotechnologies, author of over 600 scientific articles published in Moldova and abroad. In 2004, he was elected deputy president of ASM. After Academician Gheorghe Duca resigned, academician Ion Tighineanu served as acting president of ASM.
