Chernobyl disaster's victims commemorated in Moldovan capital

Chisinau, 26 April /MOLDPRES/ – The victims of Chernobyl catastrophe have been commemorated today in Chisinau throughout a series of actions in the context of marking the 33rd anniversary of tragedy.
The manifestations began with laying flowers at the Monument of ruler Stefan the Great and Holy in the centre of Chisinau. Eventually, the ones present at the event attended a March of Memory that ended at Chernobyl Victims' Memorial on street Trandafirilor in Chisinau municipality, where it was organised a rally in memory of the catastrophe victims.
Currently, there are over 2,000 persons in Moldova, who participated in liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl disaster.
In 2019, there have passed 33 years since Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe. It is considered the worst accident in the history of nuclear energy.
On 26 April 1986, the 4th reactor of Chernobyl Atom Electric Power Plant exploded at 01:23 at night. All inhabitants of the city and surroundings were evacuated because the radiation level had become dangerous. Subsequently, thousands of people, including Moldovans, participated in works to liquidate the damage consequences. Many of them lost their lives as a result of radiation – borne illness.
