Chisinau, 28 April /MOLDPRES/ - The Orthodox Christians today celebrate the Holy Easter, regarded as the greatest holiday of the Christianity, which signifies the Resurrection of Lord.
On this occasion, religious services were officiated in the churches of Moldova and thousands of Moldovans went to churches to take the Holy Fire. The latter was brought from Jerusalem to Moldova by a delegation led by Metropolitan of Moldova Vladimir this year as well.
The Pastoral Letter by Metropolitan Vladimir reads that ‘’the Holiday of Holy Easter is the Day of the Kingdom of God’’, ‘’prepared since the foundation of the world’’ for those working the deeds of love for the fellow people.’’ ‘’My dears, let us not become estranged from each other and not quarrel because or for the sake of ephemeral things. Let us not lose our souls through hatred, but win the Kingdom through love, living in peace ‘’The Day the Lord has made, in which we rejoice and are glad,’’ the Pastoral Letter also reads.
After taking the Holy Fire, the Christians went to their homes, where they prepared baskets with food to be blessed at the church.
This morning, Christians wash their chickens with one white and one red egg. This ritual symbolizes strength and purity. At the same time, believers clink red eggs, which signify the new life, received through the Blood of the Saviour.
In 2020, the Holy Easter will be celebrated on 19 April.
