Moldovan PM says true rapprochement with EU is made through reforms' implementation

Chisinau, 9 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip on 8 May evening participated in a reception organized by the European Union Delegation in Moldova, on the occasion of the Europe Day. In this connection, the PM addressed a congratulatory message to all those who support and promote the European values, such as: peace, freedom, democracy and the rule of law state, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.   

„I am glad that we have everybody realized that the European Union is not geopolitics and neither it is a political idea on which parties from Moldova have grown and died. EU is about a model of countries’ development. And our rapprochement with the European Union lies in our hands. It must not be made declaratively. The true rapprochement with EU is made through reforms’ implementation,” Pavel Filip stressed.   

At the same time, the prime minister noted that, this year, the Europe Day was of special importance for Moldova, due to those three anniversaries we mark. It is about the fifth anniversary of the signing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union, the agreement which stayed at the basis of the government’s action programme and allowed starting more reforms; the fifth anniversary of the free visa regime with EU and the tenth anniversary of the Eastern Partnership’s launch. This political framework gives those six member states possibility to get closer to EU even more.   

The prime minister thanked the European Union for the constant support provided to Moldova in its European integration, including in complicated moments for the country.

For his part, Head of the EU Delegation in Moldova Peter Michalko highlighted the tangible results recorded by Moldova following the boosting of the trade exchange and increase in investments, modernization of the economy and the state’s institutions, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects. The European official said the European Union had been and would remain a close neighbour and an open and honest partner of Moldova.
