Prut river water level to increase by over two metres on sector of Moldova

Chisinau, 11 May /MOLDPRES/ – The hydrological centre (CH) of the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has issued today a warning indicating the increase of the water level in the Prut river between localities Ungheni and Giurgiulesti.
The CH of SHS warns that the flood wave propagation will occur on 11 – 25 May, and the water level in Ungheni – Giurgiulesti sector of the Prut river will increase by 2.0 – 2.7 metres.
According to hydrologists, the water will flow into meadow in low places.
The increase of water level in this sector is due to the decision of the administration of the Hydroelectric Power Plant of Costesti – Stanca on 09 May to increase the volume of water spill from the Costesti – Stanca reservoir (Prut river) to 550 m3/s", suggests quoted source.
The recent hydrological warning was issued on 02 May, when rainfall floods occurred after very strong rainfall in the upper Prut river (Ukraine). According to the Hydrological Centre, the water level increased in sector of Criva and Costesti on 02 – 05 May.
