Public lighting system to be renewed in Calarasi

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/- Over 30 streets from Calarasi will renew public lighting systems in the autumn. It is about central arteries of the locality, which will be illuminated under an energy efficiency program, supported by the European Union.
Under the project, 900 LED lighting fixtures are to be installed in Calarasi, about 25 km away, and the power supply cables will be installed underground. The works will be carried out under the project Improving the public lighting in Calarasi - Licurici in the heart of Codrii, supported by the EU.
"The energy efficiency project in Calarasi is an important one for us, because it brings significant savings to the city and offers real benefits to citizens. We realize that bringing light to the streets is a way for citizens to feel safe. I hope that all these activities will increase the mayoralty's capacity to implement other energy efficiency projects in the future, " Project Manager at the EU Delegation in Moldova Christian Ballaro said.
Calarasi mayoralty notes that the modernization of the lighting system will help citizens and bring savings to the local budget. "At the same time, we plan to renovate the street lighting system in the areas of the History and Ethnography Museum, the city stadium, the pedestrian, etc.", deputy mayor of Calarasi Victor Ambroci said.
For his part, Jan Waanders, team leader of the EU Sustainable Urban Demonstration Program (SUDEP), said that the energy efficiency project in Calarasi has all chances to become an example for other localities in our country.
The modernization technologies of the lighting system in Calarasi are to be integrated into a single system and are meant to bring added value to the whole project and also to enhance the benefits and advantages of a public lighting system.
"Calarasi aims to become the city with the most advanced public lighting system in Moldova. Besides the most modern control and command technologies, the project also includes some innovative elements, such as tracing underground electric power cables for half a kilometer, architectural illumination of a historic building and lighting runway of the stadium,” energy expert of IDIS Viitorul Ion Muntean said.
The project is implemented by Calarasi mayoralty in partnership with IDIS Viitorul. It is funded by the EU under the EU programme Covenant of Mayors - demonstration projects. As a result, the project will provide a real economy of 6,500 euros per year, reduce CO2 emissions and costs of maintenance and operation.
