Moldova to mark International Museum Day, European Night of Museums

Chisinau, 15 May /MOLDPRES/ – There will be organised more cultural actions throughout Moldova on occasion of the 15th issue of the International Museum Day and European Night of Museums on 18 – 19 May.
The Minister of Education, Culture and Research, Monica Babuc, has referred today at a press conference upon the importance of this event for the promotion of cultural values and history of the people of Moldova, within the process of modernisation of Moldovan museums.
According to official, the issue of 2019, entitled: "Museums and Creative Hubs: The Future of Tradition", is dedicated to empowering museums to meet the challenges of modern society, making them more interactive, flexible, and focusing on communities. They turn into cultural hubs that act as platforms where creativity is combined with knowledge, and visitors can participate in the process of creating and promoting cultural heritage. The purpose of the event is to increase interest in museums and present their work in a different perspective, but also to familiarise public with museum collections and to raise awareness of the field patterns.
The Moldovan museums have become part of this massive cultural event, managing to attract a growing and diverse audience. On the occasion of the International Museum and Museum Night of Museums, in May 2019, 87 museums and cultural institutions from 19 districts have announced their consistent programme in creative workshops, lessons on the subject of preservation, development and promotion of cultural heritage, theatrical performances, song recitals, poems, painting vernisations, film screenings, contests, folk craft fairs to mark the importance of the work of museum and cultural institutions in the life of a community.
Attending the event, director of the National History Museum of Moldova, Eugen Sava, stated that on Saturday, at 10:00, the visitors will have free access to permanent exhibitions: History and civilization, Bucharest: a portrait novecento, Fashion and style in Chisinau and Bucharest of the 1930s, etc.
At his turn, director of the National Art Museum of Moldova, Tudor Zbarnea, said that on this day at the institution, the visitors will be able to see temporary exhibition: The International Painting Biennial of Chisinau 2019 and the permanent exhibition: Universal Art. Also there will be recitals of music performed by the flautist Ion Negura, Alexandru Cioroi, National Chamber Choir of the Organ Hall, led by Ilona Stepan, pupils and students from the artistic education institutions, as well as workshops for children and adults.
The director of the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, Petru Vicol, has announced that on 18 May, it will be inaugurated exhibition: Stone Architecture of Old Orhei within the institution. Parts of MNEIN collections and paintings by plastic artist Eudochia Robu. Thematic exhibition is organized in the context of the nomination of the Natural – Cultural Reserve Orheiul Vechi in the UNESCO World Heritage List. There are also scheduled book launches, creative workshops, folk craft fairs, interactive games, etc.
For good managing of the European Night of Museums, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC) has allocated MDL 55,000 from its budget.
On 18 May, 18:00 – 24:00, the public transport will be redirected from street 31 August 1989 to streets Mitropolitul G. Banulescu – Bodoni and A. Puskin and it will be limited the access and parking of private transport on these streets.
