Former transport minister sentenced to three years, six months imprisonment

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/- A former Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure was sentenced to three years and six months imprisonment with execution. The Court of Appeal examined yesterday evening the parties' appeals against the sentence of the first instance, whereby he had been sentenced to a non-custodial sentence.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the official was found guilty of influence peddling and abuse of office.
However, the judges of the Court of Appeal rejected the prosecutor's request on extended confiscation of the luxury car belonging to the former minister and the financial means of 40,000 lei and 5,500 euros - amounts raised during the search carried out at home of the businessman.
The decision is enforceable and may be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.
Former Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure, together with the heads of two construction companies, were detained on 27 April 2017.
