Future Romanian MEPs to support Moldova's European course

Chisinau, 16 May /MOLDPRES/- After the European elections, the balance of forces between parties in the European Parliament will change, but surely the 32 Romanian MEPs will work for the benefit and in support of Moldova’s European path. Romanian ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniţa made the statement in an exclusive interview for MOLDPRES.

Surely after the May elections, the European Parliament will have a new configuration. Given that European leaders have already begun to talk about the need for a balance of power is a very good thing showing that they are already preparing the European future.

The diplomat noted that even if the political structure of the European Parliament will change, certainly the 32 MEPs from Romania will work in support of Moldova’s European path.

"Over the years, the Romanian MEPs have used encouraging messages for Moldova, we have a sincere desire to help the European path of Chisinau. Romania has 32 votes that matter absolutely in any configuration of political forces. We want and we will be Moldova's lawyers to the EU, but we also have to get clear signals from Chisinau. We want Moldova, regardless of the future government, remain oriented to the West and maintain its European course,” he said.

On 26 May the European Parliament elections will take place. Romanian citizens will elect 32 deputies who will have mandates for 5 years. Romania will open a record number of polling stations abroad - 441, out of which 36 in the Republic of Moldova.
