Memorandum on strengthening Moldova-North Carolina state relations signed in Chisinau

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - A memorandum of principles and procedures between Moldova and the U.S. North Carolina state on strengthening the bilateral relations was signed by Prime Minister Pavel Filip and North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall in Chisinau today.
After the document’s signing, Pavel Filip said that the act had a validity of five years and gave possibility to initiate new partnerships between the academic and industrial environments and start cooperation in more sectors, including the information technology and economic field.
„Moldova and North Carolina are connected by a nice friendship relation. Although our countries are at a distance of thousands of kilometers, we have a cooperation which turns 20 years and we have occasion to sum up these ties and set priorities for the next period. In terms of education, more than 1,000 students and teachers have benefited from trainings and scholarships due to the collaboration with schools and universities from North Carolina. Hundreds of experts had possibility to make qualification probations in North Carolina. On the period 2016-2018, over 1,000 servicemen from Moldova participated in exercises and trainings. We have a multitude of charity projects implemented in Moldova, including the renovation and endowment of more education institutions, hospitals and orphanages, providing scholarships to young disadvantaged families and offering medical preponderantly stomatological assistance to children with special needs,” the PM noted. The official voiced hope that, in the long run, the partnership between the two states would be extended in the economic and IT sectors as well.
Following the Memorandum’s signing, Pavel Filip awarded the Diplomat of Moldova’s government to the North Carolina Secretary of State.
The bilateral partnership between Moldova and North Carolina was established 20 years ago. The bilateral cooperation committee held a meeting on this occasion in Chisinau today.
