Moldova, North Carolina state sign memorandum on cooperation

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Pavel Filip and North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall signed the memorandum on bilateral cooperation for the next five years today, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
The prime minister noted that there was a friendship relation of almost 20 years between the sides and this partnership, during time, had brought concrete benefits to citizens. Among the most important cooperation sectors, the PM highlighted:
1. The education field. More than 1,000 students and teachers from Moldova have benefited from scholarships at schools and universities from North Carolina,
2. The defence and security field. Over 1,000 Moldovan servicemen have participated in exercises and trainings in the last two years alone.
3. The humanitarian cooperation: renovation and endowment of more education institutions, hospitals and orphanages, providing education scholarships to young people from socially vulnerable families, providing medical preponderantly stomatological assistance to children with special needs.
,,These results fully justify the wish to continue this partnership and boost it – a joint wish, expressed by all of us today,” Pavel Filip said.
The prime minister specified that he was willing to further strengthen and extend this partnership in the commercial, economic and IT sectors. “I know that sectors of the knowledge industry are quickly developing in North Carolina, including the information technology sector. I avail myself of the occasion and invite American companies to invest in this sector in Moldova,” Pavel Filip added.
North Carolina Secretary of State Elaine Marshall reiterated the wish to continue the cooperation with Moldova in traditional fields, as well as to extend it in new sectors. “It is a pleasure to renew this bilateral partnership and we intend to continue efforts, in order to improve the quality of living of people both from North Carolina and of Moldova,” Elaine Marshall said.
As a token of appreciation and gratitude for the support provided to Moldova, Prime Minister Pavel Filip awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Moldovan Government to the North Carolina Secretary of State.
