Dozens of households flooded by recent heavy rainfalls in Moldova

Chisinau, 19 May /MOLDPRES/ – Dozens of households in districts Drochia, Floresti, Rascani, Ocnita and Ungheni were flooded by the strong rainfalls on 18 May.
The press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), Liliana Puscasu, has said the firefighters were asked on 18 May night to pump water from households and cellars in localities Oclanda, Bulboci, Redi – Ceresnovat and Cremenciug in Soroca district. Also, in locality Redi – Ceresnovat, the water damaged a part of 0.6 km of local road. The IGSU employees intervened to evacuate the water from five private households, but also deforest a tree that fell on the road in Voloave.
In Drochia district, the rain affected several gardens, and the rescuers pumped water from the basement of a school and several blocks of flats. In Mihaileni, Rascani district, due to rainfalls, the water from two aquatic basins poured over the pier and the rescuers and representatives of the local public authorities (ALP) dug out drainage ways to prevent floods. At Ocnita, in Calarasauca and Unguri, it was built a protective dyke to prevent water from entering households.
According to quoted source, the commissions for exceptional territorial situations (CSET) have worked today to estimate material damage from rainfalls. The IGSU warns the managers of water basins in Moldova to monitor the condition of dams and dykes, so as to prevent floods.
