EU supports greening campaign in Festelita village

Chisinau, 20 May /MOLDPRES/- Over 70,000 shallow and poplar seedlings were planted this spring in Festelita village, Stefan Voda district, under the EU-funded Adopt a Tree initiative. More than one hundred local residents had the opportunity to plant trees and receive an official "tree adoption" certificate instead.

The campaign was launched in late March by mayoralty of Festelita village in partnership with the natives association.

The action aimed to raise public awareness on environmental issues in the community, avoid  formation of unauthorized landfills in the locality, increase the awareness of the preservation and sustainable development of all types of forests, etc.

The participants in the works had the opportunity to mark their tree adopted by a note, to receive an adoption certificate under which they assume the responsibility to care for and maintain the tree in the future.
