Number of tourists visiting Moldova increased in first three months of 2019

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/- In the first three months of 2019, the number of tourists visiting Moldova increased, according to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).

In January-March, travel agencies have provided tourist services to 38.3 thousand tourists, up by 7.3% than in the same period last year. According to BNS, the increase in the number of tourists was due to the increase in the number of participants in domestic tourism and inbound tourism.

Most foreign tourists who visited the Republic of Moldova in January-March 2019 arrived in our country for rest, recreation and leisure. Mostly, Moldova was visited by tourists from Romania, Ukraine, the Russian Federation, Austria, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Italy and Bulgaria.

At the same time, in the reference period 26,400 tourists went abroad, or by 5% less than the similar period of 2018. Most Moldovan citizens went abroad for rest, recreation and leisure. Moldovans preferred to travel mainly to Romania, Egypt, Bulgaria, Ukraine and Turkey.
