Days of Slavic Writing and Culture start in Moldova

Chisinau, 21 May /MOLDPRES/ – The Days of Slavic Writing and Culture, XXIXth issue, which take place on 20 – 31 May, have started in Moldova.
On this occasion, it will take place a number of cultural actions in several localities in Moldova. According to organisers, the purpose of the event is to contribute to development of intercultural dialogue and maintenance of friendly relations between representatives of different nationalities of Moldova.
The festive inauguration of the Days of Slavic Writing and Culture will take place on Sunday, 26 May, with flower – laying at the monument of ruler Stephen the Great and the Holy and the monuments of the eminent personalities of Slavic writing and culture.
On the same day, it will take place a festive concert at the National Philharmonic Serghei Lunchevici in Chisinau.
Also, there will be organised folk festivals, concerts, poetic and literary – musical evenings, conferences, round tables, contests, meetings with young writers and poets, exhibitions and launches of books, handicraft and craftsmanship goods.
The Days of Slavic Writing and Culture in Moldova are held yearly at initiative of the Interethnic Relations Agency and Slavic Ethnocultural Associations (), with the support of the Coordinating Council of Ethnocultural Organisations and Local Public Administration in the territory. The Days of Slavic Writing and Culture originated in Bulgaria as a national religious holiday, and beyond its borders it was first marked in 1863 in the Bulgarian villages on the territory of Moldova.
On 24 May, the Slavic community around the world worships the founders of the Cyrillic alphabet – Saints Cyril and Methodius.
