Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - The residents of the Chisinau municipality and central Straseni district might soon get rid of floods, after the Bic river is cleaned. Prime Minister Pavel Filip today asked the Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment Ministry to speed up the procedures for working out the documentation on the project and the impact on the environment, needed for cleaning the Bic river. The government of Romania is to earmark ten million euros for this project, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.
„Because of the state of the Bic river, after a heavier rainfall, the road is no longer practicable and the gardens are flooded too. The problem has been present both in Chisinau and in Straseni for more years. People from the region say the problem No 1 is this one,” the PM said.
The Agriculture Ministry said that a task notebook for procurements dealing with the works within the project was under elaboration.
„We should do our homework and then get money for projects. Start the process of procurements for the impact on the environment and the project documentation,” Pavel Filip noted.
Under the project, the bed of the Bic river will be cleaned on a length of 21 km in the Straseni district and on 24 km in the Chisinau city. The draft decision according to which the money allocated will reach Moldova is in the final phase of approval at the Romanian government.
Romania will provide 15 million euros for four environmental projects in Moldova in all, out of the 100 million-euros-worth non-refundable assistance. The Bic river will be cleaned with ten million euros and the rest of the money will be used to re-establish the ecosystems from the Lower Prut meadow, remove pollution in the underground waters and cut the greenhouse gas emissions.
