Rainy, warm weather expected in Moldova in late May

Chisinau, 24 May /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has informed about a Yellow Code of atmospheric instability till 25 May and forecast short thunderstorm rains, with gusting wind up to 15-20 metres/second. In general, the end of May is expected to be rainy, yet with high air temperatures.
According to meteorologists, the concerned period will be characterized by thunderstorm rains, especially in northern Moldova, where precipitation is expected till 30 May.
According to SHS specialists, the multi-annual average quantity of precipitation in Moldova in May is 44-70 mm and the number of days with precipitation is of 8-12. Data of multi-annual observations shows that the biggest monthly quantity of precipitation reached 231 mm (Leova, 1991) and the biggest daily quantity of precipitation – 103 mm (Soroca, 1993). In May, heavy rains are possible on average once in three years and long-lasting heavy rains – on average once in 50 years.
The rainy weather will not influence the air temperature. Thus, next week, the maximum air temperatures will reach +31-+33 Celsius degrees during the day. At night, the air temperature will oscillate between +16 and +18 degrees.
