Over 300 rescuers, 65 technical units work to strengthen dam near Crocmaz

Chisinau, 28 May /MOLDPRES/- More than 300 rescuers and 65 technical units worked yesterday and will continue to work today to strengthen the dam near Crocmaz, Ştefan-Vodă district, where there is danger of overflowing the Dniester.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), yesterday the rescuers jointly with the representatives of the governmental institutions fortified the dam at a distance of about 1900 m.

IGSU employees, carabineers and soldiers have installed over 13,000 sandbags over a distance of 2.2 km. At the same time, the workers of the State Road Administration carried out works to strengthen the dam with clay and plumage over a length of about 760 m.

On 24 May at the request of Prime Minister Pavel Filip, a crisis cell was activated involving the relevant institutions to prevent flooding on the Dniestre and Prut rivers.
