Import of fuels for Transnistrian region through eastern border of Moldova to be extended until 31 December 2019

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/- The import of fuels through the eastern border of the Republic of Moldova for economic agents from the Transnistrian region through the state border crossing point Novosaviţcaia - Cuciurgan will be extended until 31 December 2019, according to amendments made by the government.

The decision stipulated customs clearance at the Bender-2 customs office located in the village of Varniţa of fuels set through Novosaviţcaia-Cuciurgan border crossing point until 31 December 2016. The decision was taken after Ukraine ceased in August 2016 the import of fuels for Transnistrian region by rail through Cobasna-Slobodca and Cuciurgan. As a result, the traffic of fuels was redirected to Ocniţa border crossing point, after which it was transported to the railway stations Ribnita and Bender-2.

The decision was in force until 31 December 2016, and was subsequently extended several times for half a year. At Rabnita and Bender 2 railway stations since 31 December 2017 a common customs control mechanism was set up, which allows the export of goods directly through the Transnistrian region under the full control of the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova. As an economic effect, this decision shortens the freight transport route by about 400 kilometers, which corresponds to the interests of the companies on both banks of the Dniester.

The Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure notes that the procedures will be stopped if, at the expiration of the six months, joint control is established at the state border crossing point Novosaviţcaia - Cuciurgan.
