Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/- At the beginning of today's cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip rejected the false accusations in media that several roads repaired under the Good Roads program were damaged by heavy rains, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

"We asked the State Road Administration for information on the condition and quality of all the roads that have been built under this project. I was glad to see no road that was built or repaired through the Good Roads program last year has not been affected. Moreover, I think it is the first time we repair the roads and after winter we go out with good quality roads. This must continue, " Filip said.

Also, the premier pointed out that changes have been made whereby 50 per cent of the road fund are directly granted to the local public authorities of first level. In this context, he noted the need to identify an effective mechanism meant to monitor the quality of roads repaired by local authorities: “as people do not make difference who built or repaired one way or another. The government ultimately takes responsibility.”

At the same time, Filip was concerned about the current stage of implementation of the Good Roads 2 program, and asked responsible people of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure to start work as soon as possible, as time is already favourable for road restoration. Minister Chiril Gaburici said that auctions are currently ongoing, and by mid-June contracts on all 32 existing lots will be signed and road repair works will start.

Under the Good Roads 2 program, in 2019 about 2,600 km of road will be built, up by 1,000 km than last year. To this end, a budget of over 2.7 billion lei was agreed.
