PM says fortification of dykes represents first time act to prevent possible damages in Moldova

Chisinau, 29 May /MOLDPRES/ – At the beginning of the Government meeting of today, Prime Minister, Pavel Filip, has thanked 300 soldiers, carabinieri, rescuers, foresters and trainees, but also the workers involved in fortification of dykes in the Dniester riverfront area in Stefan Voda district, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
"There have been consolidated almost 2,900 m of dykes, their height being increased by around 0.5 m. Over 300 persons were able to carry approximately 31 thousand bags of clay and sand. It is the first time we act to prevent damages that could have occurred, taking into account the rise of water in the Dniester river," said Pavel Filip.
At the end of recent week, the PM convened a meeting on the danger of floods from heavy rainfalls in Stefan Voda district. Pavel Filip ordered the creation of a crisis cell that would effectively manage and coordinate the situation. The works for reinforcement of dykes in the Dniester river near Stefan Voda district lasted for 5 days.
