Chisinau, 30 May /MOLDPRES/- Head of OSCE Mission to Moldova Claus Neukirch welcomed yesterday’s decision of the Moldovan government to simplify the procedure for recognition and registration of civil status documents of the inhabitants of the left bank of Dniestre and Bender.
By taking the decision, the government protects human rights against people living in the Transnistrian region, and new procedures will help improve people's access to education, healthcare and other basic vital services.
The official recalled that the importance of recognizing the legitimacy of legal commitments, such as civil status acts, was emphasized in several decisions of the European Court of Human Rights.
"Over the past few weeks, Chisinau and Tiraspol have shown leadership by taking decisions that have improved people's situation. I am sure that this measure will further strengthen the confidence gained in recent years in the Transnistrian settlement process,” he said.
Guidelines adopted by the government on 29 May will simplify the procedure for recognition and registration of marriages, divorces, births and deaths recorded in Transnistria.
