Thirty people die in traffic accidents triggered by excessive speed in Moldova since early 2019

Chisinau, 31 May /MOLDPRES/ - More than 290 people have been injured and another 30 died in the wake of traffic accidents triggered by excessive speed since the beginning of this year.
According to data by the National Patrol Inspectorate, speed remains the principal reason for traffic accidents. Thousands of drivers were sanctioned for this infringement. On the last week-end alone, official reports were compiled against 880 drivers, after being caught moving with a speed much above the allowed one.
The subject has got in the focus of the authorities too. On 30 May, Prime Minister Pavel Filip chaired a meeting, the participants in which discussed issues of the road traffic safety. The PM suggested that licences be withdrawn from the drivers moving with excessive speed. Thus, drivers moving with a speed higher than 100 km/hour in settlements and with a speed of more than 140 km/hour on national roads will be deprived of the right to drive for a period from three to six months.
