Recent rains hit more settlements from southern, northern Moldova

Chisinau, 5 June /MOLDPRES/ - The 4 June rains hit more settlements from the southern Cahul and Cantemir districts, as well as the northern Glodeni and Rascani districts. In the Cucoara village, Cahul district, rescuers evacuated four persons, of whom two minors, from flooded houses.    

The press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU), Liliana Puscasu, has told MOLDPRES that the villages Rosu, Etulia, Chircani, Cucoara, Cahul district, as well as the settlement Ciobalaccia, Cantemir district, were worst hit by the bad weather. “Firemen intervened in over 20 cases for pumping water from private households, cellars and more houses. In the Cucoara village, Cahul district, rescuers evacuated four persons, of whom two minors, from flooded houses. At the same time, in the same village, IGSU employees, along with local residents carried out works on reconstruction of a dam segment, hit by the high flood,” Puscasu said.     

According to Puscasu, the firemen’s intervention was needed also in the northern Edinet district, after a segment of about five metres of the protection dam of a lake nearby the Cepeleuti village had been damaged. The rains partially flooded 15 private gardens too. As much as 2.85 km of local roads were damaged by rains in the settlements Saptebani, Alexandresti, Borosenii Noi and Racaria, Rascani district. 

Also on 4 June, employees of the emergency situations section from the northern Soldanesti district carried out works of de-blocking of roadway, after the strong wind had knocked down more trees in the settlements of Glinjeni and Mihuleni. In the southern Basarabeasca district, heavy rainfall with hail was recorded, which hit  more farmlands and five private gardens were flooded in the western Falesti district.  

Commissions for emergency situations work in the settlements hit by the bad weather, in order to assess the material damage.
