Hundreds of hectares of farmland, several roads affected by heavy rain

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/- Over 180 hectares of sugar beet, 731 hectares of sunflower, 836 hectares of corn, and at least 76 hectares of orchards, as well as several tens of kilometers of roads have been affected by the rains of recent days. Strong streams have flooded hundreds of households and gardens from several districts of the country.

IGSU Press Officer Liliana Puscasu said that in the past week, the institution's employees were asked to pump out the spilled water in the basements and households. Thus, the rescuers carried out water evacuation works in Ungheni, Edineţ, Râşcani, Anenii Noi, Ştefan Vodă, Soroca and Briceni districts.

"Several private households were affected in nine localities in Stefan Voda district. Near Cioburciu village, the gardens of 15 private households were partially flooded. To prevent the flood risk near the village of Sărata-Răzeşti, Leova district, the rescuers jointly with the representatives of the local public authorities have carried out the works of filling a canal with sand and clay bags to stop the water flow into the meadow,” Puscasu said.

According to IGSU data, heavy rain damaged several segments of local roads in Soroca, Causeni and Floresti districts. Hundreds of hectares of agricultural crops, orchards and vines have been affected in Napadova, Mărculeşti, Alexandrovca, Izvoare, Frumuşica and Ghindeşti.

Emergency commissions are working on the spot to set damages.
