Average salary on economy increases by 17.2 per cent in Moldova in first quarter of 2019, above expectations of officials, experts

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - The monthly average nominal gross salary grew by 17.2 per cent in the first quarter of 2019 against the same period of the year before, much above the expectations of officials and experts. The Economics and Infrastructure Ministry anticipates an increase of the nominal gross salary on the economy by nine per cent this year.      

The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) today informed that the monthly average gross salary had amounted to 6,923 lei (340 euros) in January-March 2019.   

According to BNS, the highest growth, 20.5 per cent, was recorded in the public sector, as a result of actions promoted by the government in late 2018. The salary in the institutions and enterprises financed from the budget amounted to 6,842 lei in the first quarter of this year. The increase stood at 13.9 per cent, up to 6,954.3 lei, in the real sector of the economy.    

The index of the real salary for the first quarter of 2019 against the same period of the previous year (calculated as ratio between the index of the nominal gross salary and the consumer price index) was of 114.3 per cent or up by 14.3 per cent against the last year level.

The higher salaries were earned by employees of the information and communications sector, respectively 15,454 lei, financial and insurances activities - 12, 502 lei, employees of the sector of production and supply of electric and thermal energy, gas, warm water and conditioned air  - over 10,920 lei, public administration and defence, mandatory social insurances – 9,404 lei.
