Moldova might have new air route with Latvia

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova might run have a new air route Chisinau-Riga in the long run. Economics and Infrastructure Minister Chiril Gaburici and Ambassador of Latvia to Moldova Uldis Mikuts discussed the opportunity of opening the new air route today. 

„I want and I will back the idea of launching a new route, namely Chisinau-Riga. I think that once this route launched, the relations between Moldova and Latvia will develop with quicker steps, in more strategic sectors,” Minister Chiril Gaburici said.   

For his part, Uldis Mikuts said that he supported this idea, which will certainly have an immediate social and economic impact.   

The officials noted that there were Latvian economic agents working in Moldova, as well as more Moldovan citizens living and working in Latvia, who expect the launch of this route.  

The participants in the meeting also discussed joint programmes due to develop the tourism sector from both countries. At the same time, Minister Chiril Gaburici, through the ambassador of Latvia, invited Latvian companies from the information technology and communications field to become residents of the first IT Park from Moldova and encouraged the participation of Latvian companies in the work of Free Economic Zones and Industrial Parks, which provide attractive conditions for foreign investors.   

Also, Chiril Gaburici noted that the organization of a bilateral Moldova-Latvia business forum was necessary and important for both states. “Taking into account the fact that Moldova Business Week (MBW) is a very good platform for the exchange of information between local and foreign investors, along with the state’s authorities and development partners - we propose to hold the concerned Forum on the MBW 2019 platform, due to take place in November 2019,” the minister added.  

Presently, 63 enterprises with Latvian capital work in Moldova, with the investments in the registered share capital amounting to 33.05 million lei (over 1,500,000 euros).
