Moldovan hydro-meteorological centre maintains warnings of storm, local sub-flooding

Chisinau, 7 June /MOLDPRES/ - The State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) has informed about a Yellow Code of atmospheric instability till 8 June.
According to meteorologists, thunderstorm rains are forecast for the concerned period, quite heavy ones in some regions (15-45 litres/square metre), with hail and strong wind, gusting up to 15-20 metres/second.
SHS specialists said the rainy weather would maintain till 10 June, after which it will be replaced by intense heat. The air temperature is expected to increase to +32 Celsius degrees during the day. At night, +20 degrees are expected. Traditionally, the warmest weather will be in the southern region.
Also, the SHS extended the yellow Code of local sub-flooding till 10 June.
The warning is triggered by the forecasting of rains, heavy ones in some regions (15-45 litres/square metre). Thus, the hydrological centre signals the local increase of the water level in small rivers by 0.5-1 metres; formation of intensive drainings on slopes, with risk of local sub-flooding.
In this context, hydrologists warn the local public authorities, enterprises, which own reservoirs, to check the state of dams, bridges, ways of water’s evacuation.
The bad weather has caused significant damages. Thus, over 180 hectares of sugar beet, 731 hectares of sunflower, 836 hectares of maize and at least 76 hectares of orchards, as well as several tens of kilometres of road were hit by the rains from the last days. Strong streams flooded hundreds of households and gardens from more districts of Moldova.
The torrential rains made also victims. A 54-year-old man died drowned in high floods in the Scaieni settlement, northern Donduseni district, on 4 June evening and a gird from the left bank of Dniester got hit by lightning.
