Chisinau, 8 June /MOLDPRES/- The Democratic Party asked Igor Dodon on 8 June to resign and called for holding new presidential elections this autumn. The party's position was announced at a press conference by PDM deputy head Andrian Candu.

The decision to request the resignation of the head of state came after yesterday's negotiations when PSRM submitted a number of conditions that could not be accepted by PDM, in particular the request for federalization of the country.

In the Russian-language document made public by the PDM after the negotiations, it is revealed that the Socialists also called for the initiation of the trilateral talks Moldova-EU-Russia, so it is necessary to amend the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement.

The document also sees the request to amend the Constitution so that the head of state is elected by the Parliament, provided that the next President of the Republic of Moldova is a member of PSRM.

Also, the Democrats announced that the PSRM is calling for the post of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Defense, Minister of Finance, Foreign Affairs and Education. At the same time, it is also required to restore the powers previously held by the head of state, including control over the SIS.

"We need a president to love his country and defend his interests. We believe that what will happen today in parliament will be illegal, "Candu said.

He said that the Democrats reserve the right and opportunity to organize protests and demonstrations to express political vision against Dodon.
