Chisinau, 9 June /MOLDPRES/ - Thousands of citizens and supporters of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) protested on the Great National Assembly Square (PMAN) today. The demonstrators adopted a resolution of the ‘’Great National Assembly'', in which they demand organization of snap presidential elections simultaneously with parliamentary ones and asked for the resignation of Igor Dodon.
The protesters assembled on the Great National Assembly Square to back the Democratic Party shouted slogans like We Do Not Want Federalization, We Are the People, Dodon the Traitor. The PDM leadership, successively, got on the stage set on PMAN.
”This is a coup d’etat coordinated by Igor Dodon. He is no longer legitimate president of Moldova, as he needs approval from outside the country for everything he does and he tried to sell the country, proposing federalization! The only solution remained after this chaos created by the Party of Socialists and ACUM is that the politicians get back to the people and the people, at the 6 September snap elections, decide whom to send to parliament,’’ PDM leader Vlad Plahotniuc said.
The deputy leader of the Democrats, Pavel Filip, gave a speech before the protesters, in which he said that Moldova presently goes through complicated moments. ‘’The Constitutional Court (CC) found out that Dodon infringes the Constitution and gave me the right to sign the decree on the appointment of snap elections. I firmly signed this decree, as I think that nobody has right to decide for Moldova, neither from outside, nor from inside. The only who can decide is the people,’’ Filip said.
In the end of the meeting, the participants voted a resolution, in which they demanded ‘’the immediate resignation of Igor Dodon for high treason, illegal financing of the party from abroad and usurpation of the state power.’’
“In these conditions, and proceeding from the fact that the people is the sovereign, we demand the organization of snap presidential elections, on the same day with the snap parliamentary polls, on 6 September 2019, in conditions of maximum of transparency and democratic rules,’’ the document also reads.
The thousands of demonstrators went to the presidency to convey the decision of the Great National Assembly Square. The PDM leadership was in the column of protesters.
