12 new cases of measles recorded this month in Moldova

Chisinau, 11 June /MOLDPRES/- Specialists of the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP) recorded 12 new cases of measles in the first 10 days of this month.
An epidemiologist at ANSP, Laura Ţurcan, said that two suspected cases of measles in Chisinau were notified on 8 June, both of whom were hospitalized.
The areas affected by measles from 1 January 2019 so far are: Chisinau - 17 cases, Drochia - 11 cases, Ocnita - 6 cases, Briceni - one case, Edinet - one case, Stefan Voda - one case.
According to the ANSP data, the number of measles cases registered in Moldova reached 377, of which 341 in 2018. A significant increase in the number of illnesses was recorded in August 2018, with 239 confirmed cases. Epidemiologists remind people that measles is a highly contagious disease and is spreading rapidly. The first sign of the infection is the high fever, which lasts for 1-7 days. Pneumonia is the most common cause of death in measles.
It can only be prevented by vaccination. Vaccination is free for all those eligible.
