Moldova approves roadmap for prevention of food losses

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ – More state institutions and private sector representatives have approved a roadmap for preventing losses and waste of food in Moldova. The document has been validated on Wednesday, 12 June, in a workshop with participation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment (MADRM), Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure (MEI), National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA), under the aegis of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).
The FAO has presented an assessment of proportions, causes and impact of losses and waste of food in Moldova at the workshop.
For it, the FAO team has met with industry specialists, studied food supply chains and interviewed various participants, including farmers, processors and traders. The results of these missions were at core of workshop discussions and would be the basis for further territorial, technical and policy activities.
The workshop participants have also agreed on multidisciplinary collaboration within prevention and reduction of food losses and waste, as to let all stakeholders to identify solutions to this issue.
The FAO regional technical cooperation project: The strategies to reduce losses and waste of food provides assistance to participating states (Albania, Armenia, Moldova and Macedonia) in developing and implementing national policies within agricultural development and efficiency, food security, mitigation effects climate, etc. This project is part of a comprehensive programme aimed to reduce food losses and waste, which is managed by the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Asia (FAO – REU), within the Global Initiative on Reduction of Losses and Waste of Food – SAVE FOOD.
