Staircase of 9-storey block of flats in Otaci collapsed

Chisinau, 20 June /MOLDPRES/- A staircase of a 9-storey block of flats in Otaci collapsed yesterday evening. Rescuers managed to evacuate the inhabitants a few hours before the incident.

The press officer of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations / IGSU / Liliana Puscasu said that the collapse occurred at 21.20 on Prieteniei street No153 in Otaci.

According to preliminary data, no victims are recorded. IGSU employees evacuated at 18.00 46 people, including 11 children managing to avoid a tragedy. IGSU head Mihail Harabagiu went to the spot to manage the situation. Rescue teams check if there are not victims under the rubble.

Police Inspectorate staff surrounded the risk area to secure citizens. The Commission for Emergencies is convened on the spot.

President Igor Dodon said that all persons who have suffered from the incident will receive support from the state.

The issue will be discussed at today’s cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Maia Sandu said.
