Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/- Democrat leader Vlad Plahotniuc announced today he is leaving his position, as "the party can develop more actively and professionally in opposition".
In a message posted on a social network he said "PDM is under huge pressure. The pro-European parties say they have refused to talk with PDM because they have a problem with Vlad Plahotniuc. I want to remove this obstacle for the future and come up with a decision making it clear that the Democratic Party is not dependent on one person. I suggested colleagues to organize a congress of the party as soon as possible to elect a new leadership and approve a new political program,” the message reads.
He noted he will not run for this congress for any office in the party.
"I made this decision because the Democratic Party needs a new political project in opposition, a project to be worked out under new reality, by a new management team," the message said.
He announces he will keep MP mandate as “it is a vote of confidence from citizens of Nisporeni”.
On 14 June, PDM announced its withdrawal from the government, and the interim executive led by Pavel Filip resigned.
