EU to support democratic reforms in Moldova

Chisinau, 24 June /MOLDPRES/- The European Union is willing to provide necessary support for the implementation of democratic reforms in Moldova. Vice-President of the European Parliament Heidi Hautala made the statement today after a meeting with Prime Minister Maia Sandu.
Heidi Hautala is leading the European Parliament delegation, which is currently paying a visit to our country. "We are here to express our support, because we see there is really political will right now," Heidi Hautala said.
The premier said after talks that she discussed with the European officials the situation in Moldova after the new government was sworn in and the priorities for future cooperation. "We further rely on the European Parliament's support for strengthening democratic institutions and processes and improving the well-being of Moldovan citizens. I voiced hope that the financial and technical assistance programs for our country could be resumed very soon. We have expressed our support requests to investigate the major thefts faced by Moldova in recent years. We hope we will further get support in this respect, " Maia Sandu said.
A delegation of the European Parliament is today in Chisinau to assess the political situation in the Republic of Moldova and to exchange views with the representatives of the new government. MEPs also scheduled meetings with President Igor Dodon, Foreign Minister Nicolae Popescu, Interior Minister Andrei Nastase, Parliament Speaker Zinaida Greceanii, as well as with the head of the parliamentary faction of the Democratic Party, Pavel Filip.
