Gross domestic product up by 4.4% in first quarter of 2019

Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/- In the first quarter of 2019, Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Republic of Moldova was 41 billion 185 million lei, increasing by 4.4% compared to the same period last year. The National Statistics Bureau (BNS) presented data today.
However, seasonally adjusted GDP was up by 4.1% against the same quarter of 2018, and compared to the fourth quarter of 2018 – by 0.3%.
According to BNS, the biggest contribution to economic growth was in wholesale and retail trade, construction, mining and manufacturing, information and communications, and real estate transactions. Gross value added per economy increased by 5.1%, contributing to GDP growth by 85.9% and 4.4% respectively.
The taxes on products increased by 2.3% compared to the same period the previous year, contributing to the GDP growth by 0.3% and 14.5% respectively.
