Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament, government and Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) are to urgently start the procedures related to the appointment of the judges of the Constitutional Court (CCM). President Igor Dodon has made statements to this effect on his official webpage.
According to Dodon, the appointment of the new judges is a goal of special importance, so that this exercise is to be focused exclusively on the criteria of integrity, professionalism, irreproachability and objectiveness.
“I express confidence in the fact that the new composition of the Constitutional Court will be an independent one, will fulfill the noble mission of guaranteeing the supremacy of the Constitution, will obey only the Fundamental Law and will exclude at any cost the political influences and the backstage games,” Dodon wrote.
Today afternoon, the judges of the Constitutional Court informed that they were resigning from office in corpore.
The Constitutional Court is made up of six judges, appointed for a mandate of six years. Two judges were nominated by the parliament, two ones – by the government and two judges – by the Superior Council of Magistracy. The constitutional judges benefit from immunity. They cannot be detained, arrested, searched, sent to court without preliminary agreement of the Constitutional Court. These judges can hold this office during two mandates.
