Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovans living in Lithuania will be able to reconvert their driver’s licences. Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu today made statements to this effect at a joint news conference with Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Minister Linas Linkevicius, on a visit to Chisinau.

At the conference, the Moldovan diplomacy head said that Moldova and Lithuania were to foster the bilateral cooperation. Popescu noted that he relied on the support of Lithuania in the process of resumption of EU’s financial assistance for Moldova. “I discussed with my Lithuanian counterpart the re-launch of our relations with EU. You know that EU last year froze the financial assistance for Moldova. Presently, we need to get this European, financial, political support, as our single foreign policy vector is the European integration,” Popescu said.

The Moldovan official noted that, during the meeting, the sides had agreed to organize, on the next period, a forum of investors, in order to boost the commercial exchanges with Lithuania. “We agreed to work to get possibility to reconvert the driver’s licences issued in Moldova for our citizens who live in Lithuania,” Popescu added.

For his part, Lithuanian Foreign Affairs Minister Linas Linkevicius specified that the country he represents affirmed the position of backer for the new Moldovan government. “Our visit here is a clear-cut message that Moldova matters for EU, for Lithuania. We are ready to provide any support for the country’s progress,” the Lithuanian official said.

Foreign Affairs Minister of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius is on a 26-27 June visit to Moldova, at an invitation by Foreign Affairs and European Integration Minister Nicu Popescu.
