Moldovan PM meets Lithuanian foreign minister

Chisinau, 27 June /MOLDPRES/- Prime Minister Maia Sandu had a meeting with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius on 27 June. Sandu expressed her gratitude for the support offered during the recent political crisis in Chisinau, as well as for the support in the European integration, the government’s communication and protocol department has reported.

Linas Linkevičius reiterated that the visit of the Lithuanian delegation to Chisinau shows the great interest in the Republic of Moldova and the recent changes. The official said that expectations for the new government are high and concrete action is needed to remove Moldova from international isolation and unlock the financial assistance from the European Union. Other topics of primary interest were improving electoral law, ensuring an independent justice and free and apolitical media.

Linkevičius added that Lithuania is ready to assist Moldova in fighting corruption, implementing measures to prevent and combat money laundering and other important areas.

Sandu assured the European partners that there have never been discussions about federalization of Moldova, and the government's action plan will be based on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. Meanwhile, Maia Sandu has agreed to the immediate need to ensure independent justice with professional judges and prosecutors to initiate a genuine asset recovery process, independent media and build effective and powerful institutions in the fight against corruption.

The premier also said that simultaneously strengthening and cleaning state institutions, it is important to help and protect people of socially vulnerable categories and combat poverty faced by a large number of citizens of the country.
