Latvia willing to support implementation of reforms in Moldova

Chisinau, 28 June /MOLDPRES/- Latvia is willing to support the Republic of Moldova in implementing the democratic reform agenda. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevičs made the statement today after a meeting with his counterpart in Chisinau, Nicolae Popescu.
"We support the way in which things are happening on the democratic agenda of Moldova and the course for the future government. Latvia is ready to offer support in the reforms on fight against corruption and money laundering. You have our support and EU countries ", he said.
Popescu said he discussed with his Latvian counterpart both the bilateral relations and the cooperation agenda between the Republic of Moldova and the EU. "Some of the priority issues on the European agenda are to unblock external assistance to Moldova and resuming the political dialogue with our European partners. At the same time, we have expressed our desire for the EU to increase export quotas, to eliminate additional costs for roaming. This will not happen very quickly, but we want to speed it up in the relationship with the EU," Popescu said.
Regarding bilateral relations with Latvia, the minister said he had discussed with the Latvian official about "cooperation in investigating theft of billion, as some of that money was directed through the Latvian banking system and we have a common interest with Latvia to identify where this money has come and try to recover at least some of it, "the minister said.
Edgars Rinkēvičs is currently visiting Chisinau.
