EU to sustain cooperation of emergency response services of Moldova, Romania

Chisinau, 29 June /MOLDPRES/ – A grant agreement for the financing by the European Commission of project: The improvement of the Emergency Mobile, Reanimation and Extrication Service (SMURD) operating infrastructure and training of emergency response staff within cross – border area of Moldova and Romania, called SMURD 02, was signed on Friday, 28 June, in Bucharest. It will be carried out by the Romanian profile authority and Moldovan General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) in 2019 – 2022.
This cross – border project, the total value of which is €10 million, provides for the reconstruction and operationalisation of two SMURD points in localities of Ungheni and Cantemir. It is also envisaged the construction of 04 authorised landing and take – off platforms for SMURD helicopters within areas of 04 hospitals in cities: Chisinau, Balti and Cahul.
"The quality of SMURD crew's intervention, consisting of physicians, nurses and paramedics, will be improved by purchase of about 14 vehicles equipped with modern medical equipment. It will permit a qualified first aid and transportation of patients to hospital, decommissioning and rescue work. Also, it is planned to improve the legal framework for conduct of cross – border interventions," said sources of IGSU.
SMURD 02 is the second phase of the project under EU Joint Operational Programme, meant to strengthen the bilateral cooperation of emergency services of Moldova and Romania, ensuring a prompt reaction to cross – border interventions in case of medical emergencies.
Project SMURD 02 is funded by EU throughout the European Neighbourhood Instrument (IEV).
